Courting Daffodils

Posted: March 13, 2012 in Uncategorized

I naively thought that wearing a yellow shirt would do it
seduce them with my charms, some flattery by imitation
They were neither impressed nor excited
I had not slept the winter waiting for the moment
when I burst onto the spring scene, all color
I had not timed my appearance with earth’s sap rising
No, I had done none of these
Though too polite to say such things out loud
I did hear their whispering to the Bradford Pear and Forsythia:
So look who thinks he’s a daffodil!
